Oakwood Laboratories, L.L.C. is a pharmaceutical development company specializing in the application of injectable modified release technology to post-proof-of-concept pharmaceutical products.  Our goal is to discover and commercialize pharmaceutical advances that will improve the human condition.

Edward C. Smith
Chairman
Edward Smith has served as Chairman of Oakwood Laboratories since its inception in 1997.  From 1990 and 1997 he served as Chairman and CEO of Ben Venue Laboratories.  Prior to that he served as President and Executive Vice President.  He began his career at Ben Venue Laboratories as General Counsel.  Prior to this, Mr. Smith was an Associate Professor at Delaware Law School.  He received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Harvard in 1970, and a J.D.  from Harvard Law School in 1973.

Mark T. Smith
President and Chief Executive Officer
Mark Smith has served as President of Oakwood Laboratories since its founding.  He was formerly Director of Business Development at Ben Venue Laboratories.  When he joined Ben Venue Laboratories in 1991 he worked as Manager of Business Development.  Prior to this he worked as an independent consultant specializing in business planning for start-up companies.  He received a Bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature from Harvard in 1976, and an MBA from Stanford in 1980.

Jeffrey M. Fehn
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Jeff Fehn joined Oakwood Laboratories in 2004 after having spent 19 years in corporate and investment banking.  Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Fehn was with McDonald Investments, as a Senior Vice President of Investment Banking.  In addition to having 13 years of healthcare finance experience, Mr. Fehn brings expertise in a variety of corporate finance activities, including project financing, private equity placements and mergers and acquisitions advisory services.  He holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University.

B.C. Thanoo, Ph.D.
Vice President of Product Development
Dr. B.C.  Thanoo joined Oakwood in 1998 as Senior Scientist at Oakwood Laboratories and was subsequently promoted to become Director of Formulation Design & Development.  From 1996 to 1998 he was Senior Scientist at Ben Venue Laboratories.  Dr. Thanoo’s accomplishments included working as a scientist in a medical institute governed by the India Department of Science and Technology.  He also co-authored the patent application for Oakwood Laboratories’ new microsphere formation process.  Dr. Thanoo received his Ph.D. in Polymer Science from the University of Madras, India in 1985, and completed additional coursework at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy.  Dr. Thanoo received his Masters and Bachelors degrees in Chemistry were received from India’s Madurai Kamaraj University in 1981 and 1979, respectively.

Shritin Shah
Vice President of Quality
Shritin Shah joined Oakwood in 2005 as Director of Quality and has primary responsibility for quality systems and facility documentation and validation of Oakwood’s aseptic processes and facility.  He has sixteen years experience in aseptic manufacture, validation and quality affairs.  Having worked with Lyphomed, APP, Quintiles and most recently, Akorn, Inc. where he served as Executive Director of Quality Assurance and Technical Services.


Oakwood Labs

Oakwood Laboratories was founded as the research division of Ben Venue Laboratories, the largest and most experienced parenteral company in the world. In 1997 it was spun off as a separate entity when Ben Venue was acquired by Boehringer-Ingelheim. Oakwood's founders, Edward C. Smith and Mark T. Smith were C.E.O and the Director of Business Development of Ben Venue and were responsible for starting Ben Venue's generic division, Bedford Laboratories.
